What They Ate Is No Debate

Allen Stanford, the financier who was arrested by the FBI in 2009 on fraud charges, worked hard to cultivate relationships with leading political figures. Today’s Washington Post reports that Stanford’s firm kept records of the “culinary preferences” of politicians and other VIPs who used the company’s jets. According to the company’s notes:
- Congressman John Boehner, who was destined to become the House Speaker, liked orange juice and cheese omelets.
- Ex-House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas "does not care for sweets" and preferred decaffeinated coffee with one packet of Sweet ’N Low. "Always a hearty eater" was how Stanford’s firm summed up DeLay’s appetite.
